Ready Player One's Cast On Working With Spielberg And Their Favourite References
Ready Player One References
Ready Player One is, of course, a movie not so much packed with Easter eggs and references as it is made out of them. Some, however, are more favoured than others.
On the blue carpet, Tye Sheridan went into the references in the book and which one in the movie is his favourite:
"I think reading Ernie Cline's book, unless you're Ernie Cline, or as much of an expert as he is on the 80s, you would never understand all of the obscure references. So reading his book was a crash-course, a lot of those references made it into our film, some are very new. My favourite reference in the movie is to The Iron Giant, the Brad Bird film. I love his movies, and that movie especially I have such a sentimental relationship with, and with that character. So it's amazing to see an avatar that I play standing right next to Iron Giant and be fighting on the same side."
That was the case for newcomer Philip Zhao, who plays Shoto, too, with the actor responding: "Iron Giant. No question."
Ernest Cline, however, had a different response, and his favourite isn't even taken from his book. He said:
"Oh my gosh! Have you seen the movie yet? I don't wanna ruin it, but you'll know it when you see it. It's right in the middle of the movie, it's unexpected, and it's not in the novel, but it's very much in the spirit of something in the novel. You'll see, and it's going to be your favourite too, my prediction."
