Recasting Every Major Role In The DCEU

3. Robert Pattinson As The Joker

What Happened?

Jared Leto's performance as The Joker in Suicide Squad was met with an even more hostile reaction from fans than Jesse Eisenberg in Batman v Superman.

Though you can certainly argue that Leto was constrained by the committee-produced final cut (which severely reduced his role), many felt that his Joker was an off-putting "edgelord" rather than a compelling rendition of the Clown Prince of Crime.

Rumours have persisted ever since Suicide Squad's release that Leto wouldn't be reprising the role, and a recent leak from the Birds of Prey set seems to add pretty conclusive "proof" that Leto won't be coming back to play the DCEU Joker.

The Recast

It's tough to say how The Joker will even fit into the DCEU from this point on - especially as we have no idea if he'll appear in The Batman - but there's no way Warner Bros. will sleep on him for long.

Joaquin Phoenix is already set to play an alternate version of The Joker later this year for Todd Phillips, but the studio will also want to recast their DCEU-specific Joker sooner rather than later.

There have been dozens of names thrown around online, but the one we keep coming back to is Robert Pattinson.

That's not to say that the actor would want to tether himself to another blockbuster franchise after the traumatic experience that was Twilight, but he's blossomed into a fantastically bold actor in his own right over the last 5-or-so years.

Good Time saw Pattinson really sink his teeth into a dark and complex character, and it's easy to see how he could pivot from that to The Joker. That's not to forget his angular jaw and unconventional handsomeness, which would both lend themselves well to slapping on The Joker's iconic makeup.

We're going to assume the character would be re-designed with Pattinson specifically in mind, because you probably can't imagine him letting someone fit him with grills and write "damaged" on his forehead, can you?
