Recasting The Harry Potter Movies If They Came Out Today
2. Albus Dumbledore – Gary Oldman
Albus Dumbledore is a hard character to cast. He’s a fascinating man with a rich backstory who’s capable of being both kind and intimidating.
Oldman is one of the most acclaimed actors currently working today. His portrayal of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour earned him multiple awards, including the Oscar for Best Actor. And he’s also known for his performance as Jim Gordan in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy.
In addition to these terrific performances, Oldman, of course, played Sirius Black in the original Harry Potter movies. Though he didn’t have a huge amount of screen time, Oldman’s more emotive scenes alongside Daniel Radcliffe were amongst the best of the franchise. Indeed, his wise and considered delivery would be more than ideal for the role of Dumbledore.
Some may say he’s too young as he’s still in his early sixties and Dumbledore is meant to be over a hundred. Thankfully, this issue could easily be fixed with some effective makeup and a lot of hair dye.
