Recasting The Harry Potter Movies If They Came Out Today
1. Severus Snape – Tim Roth
Alan Rickman was superb as Severus Snape. He was able to capture the darker side of his character and then add considerable depth to the role as the series continued.
Interestingly enough, Tim Roth was initially considered for the role of Snape back in the early 2000s but he ultimately turned down the offer in favour of playing Thade in Planet of the Apes.
Roth has worked on a number of impressive films over the years and is best known for starring in several Quentin Tarantino movies, such as Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Anyone who’s seen these iconic movies will know how talented he is as a performer. And whilst Rickman’s performance will be hard to top, a more faithful adaptation would allow Roth to add more complexity to the character.
The only potential problem is that Roth is perhaps too old given Snape is meant to be in his early thirties when he first appears in The Philosopher’s Stone. But once again, this minor issue could easily be solved with a bit of help from the makeup department.
