Recasting The Lord Of The Rings Movies
4. Pippin - David Moorst
David Moorst is not a name that general audiences are likely to be familiar with. The British actor primarily works in the realm of theatre, and whilst he has some film credits to his name such as Peterloo and Waiting for the Barbarians, he is relatively inexperienced on the big screen. However, his theatre work is an example of how utterly charming and likeable this actor is.
Pippin worked incredibly well as the funny and silly character that he was in the original trilogy. By casting David Moorst there would be an opportunity to continue this as the actor is very gifted with his comic timing. However, to contrast this, he would also play a large part in making Pippin a little more serious. The child-like nature of Billy Boyd was a great direction, but there were times when it would have been great to see more agency from Pippin. Moorst is an actor that could bring that to the forefront of his performance.
Taking what is already known of the character and developing it wouldn't be the only benefit to casting him. His status as an unknown performer would mean that he would be able to become synonymous with the role, and wouldn't act as a distracting presence in the final product.
