Recasting The Lord Of The Rings Movies
3. Sam - Daniel Portman
Samwise Gamgee is an integral piece of The Lord of the Rings. He acts as one of the most beloved and appreciated characters in the saga. His determination and drive to see the quest through to the end make him admirable and brave. These are qualities that would need to be achieved in the casting, as without a good Sam the emotional crux of the story would feel hollow.
Daniel Portman is best known for his portrayal of Podrick in Game of Thrones. Making him hardly a newcomer to the world of fantasy. Portman has a look and energy that feel appropriate for this important role. His time on GOT was decent but ultimately lacking. Portman never quite got the opportunity to do anything with Podrick, and that is less to do with his performance but the lack of direction that the character underwent.
This would be an excellent opportunity for him to carve out a new fantasy legacy for himself. The actor is likeable but also supremely good at addressing the severity of the situation, a combination that would work wonders for Sam. Portman plays a good companion, and Sam is one of the best partner characters in fiction. Thus he could have fun with this role.
