Renfield Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

5. Nicolas Cage Steals The Show (Of Course)

Renfield Nicolas Cage
Universal

Was there ever going to be any other result than Nicolas Cage unhinging his jaw and devouring this movie whole? Though he's not in it nearly enough, Cage sucks the air out of the room every single second he's on screen and gives exactly the cartoon of a performance you'd hope for.

Cage is clearly having an absolute blast playing a character he's wanted to for his entire career, and whether monologuing like a classic screen iteration of The Count or kicking ass like a modern day supervillain, Cage manages to make the iconic character feel very much his own.

While it's a shame the script isn't centered more around him, Cage certainly lives up to the hype in terms of minute-for-minute screen time. The man brought his A-game and confirms again precisely why he's earned such a beloved cult of fans.
