Resident Evil Movie Reboot: 10 Things It MUST Get Right

8. Tell RE1's Story In Flashbacks

Whilst it might initially sound like a write-off trying to adapt both the first and second game in the same movie, there is actually a way they could do this which would flow quite nicely and provide more intrigue to viewers.

The original RE1 is a great game but it is actually quite light on narrative elements. People remember the tense atmosphere and the iconic moments (the POV introduction to the Hunters is still spine chilling), but the actual plot is light on the ground, with your character spending the majority of the game alone and simply trying to find a way out of the Spencer Mansion.

The movie should largely focus on RE2 and the fall of Raccoon City. Highlight the key moments of the original game in flashback sequences throughout the movie as Claire Redfield continues her exploration of the town to try and solve what happened to her brother and his team.

This will allow you to hit the big moments from the first game without having to workout how to keep viewers engaged in characters walking around looking for keys. It also provides a good framework for the audience as they piece together the events of RE1 at the same pace Claire Redfield does.
