Rian Johnson, director of Looper and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, has just dropped the first trailer for Knives Out, an upcoming mystery thriller set to release November 2019.

Featuring a star-studded cast comprised of the likes of Daniel Craig, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christopher Plummer and Chris Evans, the first trailer seems to be aiming for an Agatha Christie-esque vibe - and it looks magnificent.

Taking place after the murder a "renowned crime novelist", Knives Out follows the efforts of Craig's Detective Benoit Blanc to uncover the real culprit. Everyone's a suspect, everyone's paranoid, and none of them can leave until the truth is out there. It's a premise fit for Poirot himself, while the involvement of Johnson and several big-name actors are sure to pique audiences' interests for the foreseeable future.

It also has Chris Evans cast against type as a potty-mouthed rich kid, which is as far a cry as you could possibly get from Captain America and is presumably worth the price of admission alone.

The synopsis reads as follows:

"Acclaimed writer and director Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper, The Last Jedi) pays tribute to mystery mastermind Agatha Christie in KNIVES OUT, a fun, modern-day murder mystery where everyone is a suspect. When renowned crime novelist Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) is found dead at his estate just after his 85th birthday, the inquisitive and debonair Detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) is mysteriously enlisted to investigate. From Harlan’s dysfunctional family to his devoted staff, Blanc sifts through a web of red herrings and self-serving lies to uncover the truth behind Harlan’s untimely death. With an all-star ensemble cast including Chris Evans, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford and Jaeden Martell, KNIVES OUT is a witty and stylish whodunit guaranteed to keep audiences guessing until the very end."

Content Producer/Presenter

WhatCulture's very own resident movie guy, Ewan has been working in the content creation biz for over 10 years now, having started as a freelance contributor to WhatCulture Gaming all the way back in 2015. After graduating with a First-Class Honours in History from Northumbria University in 2017 (where he won a prize for a totally killer dissertation on the Watergate years), Ewan took on the role of Comics Editor at WhatCulture and quickly developed WhatCulture Comics into one of the biggest superhero-focused channels on YouTube. He followed this with a brief hiatus at Screen Rant in 2021, where he worked across the Gaming and Film sections as a writer and editor, before returning to WhatCulture as a Senior Content Producer / Presenter in 2023. He started his own podcast, We Love Dad Movies, in 2022, and has contributed several written pieces to the Eisner-nominated comics website Shelfdust as well. In his current role, Ewan incorporates his love of cinema, comic books, and history into written pieces and video essays for WhatCulture's Film & TV channel, as well as WhatCulture Gaming and WhatCulture Horror, with a particular focus on nineties-era Dad Movies, old school Westerns, and Golden Age Hollywood Noir. John Carpenter is his fave, and he thinks Batman Beyond should never have been cancelled. If that's your vibe, you'll probably like his stuff.
