Though the original theatrical cut of Blade Runner was widely-ridiculed upon release, the various Special Editions that followed (and The Final Cut in particular) cemented its status as an enduring sci-fi classic, a visually entrancing, narratively provocative existential thriller that's influenced countless films in the genre over the years. Harrison Ford, Sean Young and Rutger Hauer give unforgettable performances in a movie which begs the question, all the way up to its tantalising cliffhanger: what does it mean to be human? If the slow pacing may put some off, it's a film worth sticking with to the end: the beautiful style and poetic dialogue makes for an intoxicating mix. Though Scott isn't directing the upcoming sequel, it's probably going to be in fine hands with the ultra-talented Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners, Sicario) helming.
