This role perfectly showcased Hoskins ability to play a quietly reserved character, yet one who is a formidable presence on screen without actually saying much is the role of intimidating film executive Eddie Mannix. Not phased by Adrien Brody's private investigator Louis Simo's investigation into the apparent suicide of actor and original Superman George Reeves, Mannix dodges threats to "burn in hell" easily before handing out his own. What's incredible about this standout scene from the film is that Hoskins never raises his voice, yet completely commands the screen, simply walking slowly towards Brody and whispering "prove it" with as much presence as an actor who might choose a more fiery performance to less success. Shockingly snubbed by all awards left, right and centre (Ben Affleck took home the only critical praise), Hollywoodland proved that Hoskins still had the ability to command an audience in a supporting role at 64 years old.
