Today, it's with great regret that I report to you the sad passing of
The Mummy 3. Some of you out there probably thought the franchise was dead after the horrid sequel, though it would live a little longer for
The Scorpion King. I firmly believe that a third movie could have worked if they went back and added in more elements from the original and managed to hire a half-decent, or really ambitious young director. According to
Variety,
Rob Cohen is in talks to helm The Mummy 3 which will no doubt be the final nail in the coffin for this series.
Hidalgo director
Joe Johnston looks to have turned down the job of resurrecting the franchise. Cohen is the guy that brought
Stealth (one of the biggest Box Office failures for quite some time),
XXX,
The Fast and The Furious and
Dragonheart to our screens. This guy does not know how to make a competent movie, and if I was Universal, I would seriously tighten the strings on this guy's budget. source -
