Robert Downey Jr: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

5 Performances That Were Awesome

5. Charlie Chaplin - Chaplin (1992)

Robert Downey Jr. Chaplin Despite focusing on the life of one of cinema's most famous screen icons (perhaps the most famous), Chaplin remains to be properly embraced by mass audiences - a shame, considering that the movie contains what has to be considered one of Robert Downey Jr.'s best performances. This is no mere imitation - Downey Jr. imbues the role with such passion and dedication (and clear affection for the man he's portraying), it's no wonder that he was granted an Oscar nod when this movie hit theatres back in 1992. The film itself - focusing mostly on Chaplin's early years - isn't exactly the greatest biopic ever made, though. It feels too safe in places, and there the movie doesn't really feel as cinematic as it probably should have. But the experience is totally worth your time just to see Downey Jr. putting on a show - he really gets the tics and accent just right. There's the feeling that, had he been alive to see it, even the great Chaplin himself would've approved of just how expertly Robert Downey Jr. portrayed him.
