Robin Hood Review: 2 Ups & 7 Downs

1. Its Embarrassing Sequel-Bait Ending

Robin Hood
Lionsgate

No spoilers here - though let's be honest, how much do you care? - but as predictably as the sun will rise tomorrow, Robin Hood of course ends with a sequel-baiting ending setting up a potential new movie and, yes, a Robin Hood Cinematic Universe.

The hilariously tacked-on final scene is a desperate attempt to establish a villain for the second movie that's never going to get made, and open up the possibilities of a universe nobody's especially interested in.

You almost have to admire their audacious optimism, really, even if it's going to date the film even more in the future, long after any prospect of a franchise has gone up in smoke.

So, Robin Hood is a terrible movie. A terrible movie with just a few bright spots keeping it from being decisively the very worst theatrical release of 2018...
