RoboCop: 4 Things That Worked (And 6 That Sucked)

8. Gary Oldman & Michael Keaton Save The Day

To say that Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton saved this film is not an exaggeration. Had these two not been in the RoboCop remake, the film would have struggled to be classed even as watchable. They carry the movie and push the script along while the rest of the cast do their best to fumble through or drag it down altogether. Michael Keaton replaced Hugh Laurie as Raymond Sellers, CEO of Omnicorp. Less formal than the 'old man' in the original, Keaton comes across more like your nice uncle playing boss of a multi-billion dollar company. While in the back of your mind you struggle to separate Raymond Sellers from Bruce Wayne, Keaton€™s unique delivery is always fun to watch. As for Gary Oldman, he's easily the best actor in the film. Putting in the real emotion that€™s missing from Joel Kinnaman's mediocre performance, you see Oldman struggle with his ethics as he fuses man with machine. If this RoboCop was supposed to be all about Murphy€™s transformation from man to machine, it is Gary Oldman that does the majority of the work of translating the human struggle to the audience. The scenes that have Oldman and Keaton debating the ethics of putting a man in a machine are some of the best in the film.
