Russell Crowe: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 That Sucked
4. Noah - Noah
Everyone dissed Noah because it was a revisionist biblical epic coming out in 2014. Who's it for? Religious types will find it blasphemous and non-religious types will find it preachy.
But, guess what? It's actually great! And while much of that is Darren Aronofsky's decision to treat it like high fantasy, Crowe is excellent as the ark builder. He's racked with the ancestral guilt of Cain and Able, but also heavily doubting his faith, with God only communicating through visions that are immensely confusing.
It's a big, epic role, seeing Crowe go through idealistic family man, action hero and greyed recluse in record time. Its not very book accurate, sure, but its the best a Russell Crowe Noah could be. He also gets to deliver the best take on the Book of Genesis you'll ever hear.
