Ryan Reynolds: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
3. Matthew Piper - The Captive
Back in the nineties, awesomely named director Atom Egoyan could do no wrong, garnering plaudits for The Adjuster and Exotica, as well as an Oscar nomination for The Sweet Hereafter. The noughties haven't been as kind, with a sharp decline in the quality of his output, culminating in 2014's The Captive. Something of a mess right from the premise, Reynolds plays a Canadian native desperate to find his abducted daughter. With a far-fetched story involving eccentric paedophiles and breakneck twists, not to mention a flashback structure that leaves a constantly baffled looking Reynolds lost in the wilderness, this will remain one of his most dour roles.
