Sam Rockwell: 5 Awesome Performances & 5 You Won't Remember

4. Forgettable- Gentlemen Broncos

In somewhat of a dual role, Rockwell portrays the characters of Bronco and Brutus, figments of the imaginations of two writers (Michael Angarano and Jemaine Clement) caught in a battle over plagiarism. These sequences are included to bring the writer's work to life in the film and they both fail miserably. Rockwell plays Bronco as an alpha male with a big bushy beard and Brutus as an overtly effeminate (again) space ranger who looks like a member of Abba with a handlebar mustache. Once again Rockwell looks uncomfortable, and although his comic delivery is as solid as one can get, he seems to stumble along, trying to bring it full force. The material just doesn't give Rockwell anything outstanding to work with, and although these sequences are supposed to be an off the wall camp style of cheesy sci-fi, they fall flat every time out of the gate.
