Sarah Polley to suffer a SPLICE

DAWN OF THE DEAD actress joins Adrien Brody as a scientist who defies ethical boundaries to splice together a human being and an animal!

The trades are a little behind the news that Oscar winning actor Adrien Brody will star in the Vincenzo Natali (CUBE, CYPHER) directed sci-fi horror flick SPLICE which we brought to you some weeks back now. But they do have something new to tell us... Remember that blonde lead girl who couldn't act in DAWN OF THE DEAD but last year blew the critics away with her movie AWAY FROM HER which she wrote and directed? Well she's signed up for the movie too. Her name is Sarah Polley and production is set to begin next month in Toronto.

The film is about Elsa (Polley) and Clive (Brody), two young rebellious scientists, defy legal and ethical boundaries and forge ahead with a dangerous experiment: splicing together human and animal DNA to create a new organism. Named Dren, the creature rapidly develops from a deformed female infant into a beautiful but dangerous winged human-chimera, who forges a bond with both of her creators - only to have that bond turn deadly.
It's scary to think that Adrien Brody is only 35 years old. We have so many more movies to see him in, and the way he chooses his projects are extremely interesting. Here you have this terrific Oscar winning actor who isn't afraid to do the genre stuff like SPLICE or HOLLYWOODLAND, over the big productions. He's going to have his work cut out from him here though I fear, unless Polley has improved on her acting skills over the last three years. Still, this sounds interesting in a modern day FRANKENSTEIN type way.
