Frank Darbont's adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist boasts one of the most detestable villains of any horror movie this century - the quick-to-loathe religious fanatic Mrs. Carmody (Marcia Gay Harden).

Carmody believes that the mist is a form of divine punishment and later calls for the group of survivors trapped inside the supermarket to choose people to sacrifice in order to appease the otherworldly monsters.

She eventually orders her followers to sacrifice Amanda (Laurie Holden) and protagonist David's (Thomas Jane) son Billy (Nathan Gamble), at which point Carmody is suddenly shot by the store's assistant manager Ollie (Toby Jones).

And as Carmody falls to her knees wounded, he unloads another gunshot in her head, killing her instantly.

Talk about an absolutely vile villain who couldn't have taken a bullet to the temple any sooner.

Mrs. Carmody is played with blood-boiling brilliance by Marcia Gay Harden, such that when she finally goes down for the count, you might want to leap out of your seat and cheer.
