4. MaureenEvans (Scream 2)
The first film set the bar so high for the opening scene (keep reading the list for further proof). So when the sequel came around, it certainly had some big shoes to film, and in the end, did an admirable job with two fairly memorable kills (see #8 for the other). In a clearly irresponsible move, the studio/theater provide each of the hundreds of guests in attendance with a full replica Ghostface costume and fake knife providing the real killer with a perfect disguise and getaway. After only a few minutes into the screening, both Maureen and Phil decide to get up leave (he for the bathroom, she for popcorn). He, of course, is killed and Ghostface, donning his clothes and pretending to be him, returns to sit next to Maureen. And amidst all the commotion caused by the absolute rowdiest movie audience ever, Ghostface stabs Maureen several times before she stumbles in front of the screen, ridiculously howls for all to hear, and drops dead.
Trivia: Director Robert Rodriguez (
Sin City) directed the two scenes of "Stab" the movie-within-a-movie. He was in pre-production on
The Faculty, another horror film for the same studio (Dimension Films) and screenwriter (Kevin Williamson).
