Scream Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. The Uneven Pacing

The Scream films have all been on the longer side for horror movies - close to two hours or in the case of Scream 2 exactly two hours - and the new one is no different.

But at 114 minutes, Scream 2022 feels it length more than any of the other films due to the somewhat wonky pacing.

The second act in particular is a little saggy, the overlong downtime between set-pieces most obviously where a few minutes could've been trimmed.

Perhaps that runtime might've been permissible were Scream doing anything particularly daring or fresh with the series' formula, but given that it largely plays a revised version of the hits for the current era, it really could've been tightened up during editing.
