12. The Ladder Escape
One of the movie's easy high-points both literally and figuratively is the delirious sequence where the Core Four and Mindy's girlfriend Anika desperately attempt to escape Ghostface.
Sam's handsome neighbour and secret lover Danny (Josh Segarra) sees that the group is in trouble and passes a ladder across to his apartment, allowing them to escape.
It's a tense, high-wire set-piece as Sam and Mindy frantically crawl across, but by the time it comes to Anika's turn, she's sadly not so lucky.
Anika, who has already been gravely wounded by Ghostface, simply can't get across the ladder fast enough, before Ghostface breaks down the barricade to the room.
The killer then violently shakes the ladder, causing Anika to fall and land directly on a dumpster below, splitting her skull open and killing her instantly.
It's one of the saddest, cruellest, and most brutal deaths in the entire series, and provides a fine exclamation point on perhaps the movie's most nerve-shredding suspense sequence.
