Scream VI: 22 WTF Moments
16. Sidney's Absence Explained
It's no secret that Sidney isn't in Scream VI because of a pay dispute between Neve Campbell and Paramount, and while the film does just fine without her - and frankly, her presence would feel forced at this point - she is briefly mentioned a few times.
While Gale speaks to Sam and Tara, she tells them that she spoke to Sid once the New York slayings started, and that she won't be coming to assist this time.
Rather, Sid is understandably hiding out safe with her children and husband, Mark - again implied to be Detective Mark Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey) from Scream 3 - and Gale tells Sam that she "deserves her happy ending," to which Sam agrees.
While it's a shame that the studio low-balled the series' star and this apparently had a profound effect on Scream VI's script, ultimately it's probably for the best that the franchise learns to stand on its own two feet without major involvement of the remaining legacy heroes.
