Scream VI Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. The Underwhelming, Convoluted Third Act

Scream VI

Where Scream VI suffers worst is undeniably in its final reel, where the cards are all played and we finally get to the heart of the slasher whodunnit story.

Without getting into spoiler-y details, this is by far the weakest part of the movie, and perhaps suggests that the filmmakers should've spent another year to finesse the narrative particulars before going into production.

It's the big reveal and everything associated with it which ultimately drags Scream VI down the most - at once being relatively uninspired, over-familiar, and worst of all heinously contrived to the point of near-parody.

Every whodunnit needs a satisfying climax, but Scream VI's feels disappointingly warmed-over and low on creativity, especially following on from Scream 5's devilishly funny takedown of toxic fandoms.
