Seth MacFarlane at the Oscars - Is He Ready?

3. He€™s Got Enough Characters To Switch Between€But They€™re A Bit Recycled

MacFarlane Diagram If you scan through all three of his television shows, you will see that MacFarlane has a reliable stable of character formulas involved. The great thing about this is he has an already diversified portfolio of angles and aspects he can consider when he writes a gag. On top of those fresh perspectives is a personality and a voice unique to its own, which will make it easier for him not only to write for himself but also for presenters. Further more, as if to seal the proverbial deal, his caricatures of celebrity royalty will be of better use when some of those people actually perform the role of themselves. Imagine Seth MacFarlane's Jack Nicholson caricature brought to life by Joker Jack himself! However, his portfolio is also a troubling aspect as he's abused its contents through three separate shows. Family Guy, American Dad, and The Cleveland Show all have that same set of characters with diverse perspectives and angles. All of them interact with each other in the same way as they would on any one of his other shows, and they offer little to nothing new to the table. Family Guy mocks The Simpsons, American Dad mocks The Right, Cleveland mocks the other two in equal part and throws in some Southern Racial Tension humor. If this is any indication of MacFarlane's "variety", be prepared for the same sorts of gags over and over and over again for three hours.
