SEX AND THE CITY - highest opening female led flick ever?

The ladies are sure enjoying a rare weekend arranged just for them at the movies right now. Fantasy Moguls are reporting that the Sex and the City movie earned over $26 million on Friday alone and should end up with $66.5 million by the end of closing on Sunday.

Woman are invading the multiplexes in their droves as we all knew they would. Sex and the City should become the highest ever opening for a movie led by a female (multiple in this case) beating out the first Lara Croft: Tomb Raider movie with Angelina Jolie. It only needs to gross over $47 million to accomplish that. All this success is despite scathing reviews from most top critics (mostly male of course) and an awful 3.7 rating after over 3,000 votes on IMDB. Though you have to wonder how many of those votes were cast by people who had actually seen the movie as 2/3rd's of that was voted by men... many of which gave it a 1 very early into it's opening. Can't say I'm surprised by all this, we all knew Sex and the City was watched, dissected and discussed frequently by most of the opposite sex during it's t.v. run and in a world where tight clad spandex superheros are king, this was their one weekend. Probably not the last we have seen of this universe now then either, wouldn't ya think?
