Shaun Of The Dead Vs Hot Fuzz - Which Is Better?

8. Cast

A little tricky this one, given Edgar Wright used so many of the same cast members throughout his Cornetto Trilogy. Aside from Pegg and Frost, we once again see the likes of Martin Freeman, Bill Nighy, Julia Deakin, and Rafe Spall.

There's a smaller, tighter cast in Shaun, which largely goes to focus on Pegg and Frost along with Kate Ashfield's Liz, Dylan Moran's David, and Lucy Davis' Dianne, the latter two of whom are particularly great here, while Nighy gives an affecting turn as Shaun's stepfather. It works well as an ensemble, with the different styles playing nicely off each other.

Hot Fuzz brings a more sprawling cast, filling the town of Sandford with an array of weird, wonderful, and wicked characters, all of whom were played by a recognisable face. The police team alone is a box of delights: Rafe Spall and Paddy Considine make for an exceptional duo as the two Andys, Olivia Colman's comic talents are on full display, and the legendary Jim Broadbent heads up the whole operation in bumbling style, while Bill Bailey occasionally pops up for a hilarious aside. Then there's the rest of the village, most notably Timothy Dalton's smirking, charming villain. The wealth is spread around more in Fuzz, with each character really feeling unique, and everyone brings something different to the table.

Winner: Hot Fuzz
