Shaun Of The Dead Vs Hot Fuzz - Which Is Better?

5. Humour

Shaun of the Dead wrings a lot of humour out of both its zombie movie trappings and the relationship drama between Shaun and Liz, with Dylan Moran's David particularly cutting and funny. There's a lot of physical comedy, but also just some simply brilliant lines, and Pegg and Frost's delivery, along with some strong supporting turns, means it is guaranteed to make you laugh. That said, the script injects plenty of pathos too, so it's not as outright a comedy as Hot Fuzz.

Fuzz is more non-stop in its joke-telling, and thanks to its buddy-cop homaging, rural setting, and oddball pairing it has a wider variety of gags it can use. There's some incredible physical comedy - the fence scene in this movie gets me every time - along with name gags (Peter Ian Staker), sight gags, callbacks to earlier in the movie, the sarcasm of the Andys, the weirdness of the other residents, and so much more. It's sure of itself every time, always commits, and never stops being laugh-out-loud funny.

Winner: Hot Fuzz
