Shazam! Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

1. The Third Act Is Full Of Surprises

No spoilers here, but while the film's finale does drag on a little too long, the third act does also contain a number of agreeably unexpected elements, especially for those who aren't that familiar with the character.

In addition to some expectation-defying action, there's a fantastic exclamation point of a final scene, not to mention two credits scenes which are by turns mystifying and amusing (as is now the expected formula set by the MCU).

Just when the film starts to feel like it's settling into predictable superhero movie patterns, it hurls a number of fast-and-loose surprises at the audience in the home stretch, and they largely pay off exceptionally well.
