Shoot Em Up sequel with the same cast & crew?

Shoot Em' Up is looking like one fun ride. There's a nice style to the movie which is reminiscent of Smokin' Aces and Paul Giamatti looks like he's put in another really cool performance. Here is the trailer for the flick again for those who need to catch up...

Anyway, Filmstalker have nabbed some quotes from Coming Soon, who spoke to the producer Susan Montford and director Michael Davis who actually revealed that a script has already been written which if tweaked slightly, could act as the movie's sequel. What's even more interesting, is that he has the idea of doing a Sergio Leone style sequel... where the same actors are used again, just in the guise of completely new characters. The quote from the movie's producer Susan Montford...
"Well, Michael's already written a script and it's even wilder...It could also be a stand-alone piece as well. He's been very clever. He's written a brilliant script and it could be adapted to be a sequel or it could stand alone."
You can read the whole quotes over at Coming Soon but I haven't for fear of spoilers. Davis does feel like a Leone fan, especially with the title cards for the characters in his flick, the amount of real big close-ups and guys with guns pointed at each other at the same time.

So the way to read this then, is that if Shoot Em Up is a success when it opens in about four weeks then a sequel will soon be greenlit, likely with the three lead characters and the title Shoot Em Up 2 or whatever. If the movie bombs, then the script will be turned into a new film with a new title and no continuity to this, likely with new actors too. That's the way Hollywood works guys.
