Sicario 2: Soldado Review - 5 Ups & 4 Downs

Ups...

5. Josh Brolin & Benicio Del Toro's Riveting Performances

Sicario 2 Soldado Benicio Del Toro
Columbia Pictures

No matter the movie's issues, Josh Brolin and especially Benicio del Toro once again give splendidly slimy performances as the CIA's Matt Graver and operative-for-hire Alejandro Gillick respectively.

Brolin continues to be delightfully stoic and ruthless as a man who will do whatever it takes to get the mission done, while del Toro again brings the ambiguous gravitas and grizzled grit that made Alejandro the easy highlight of the original movie.

Even when the script falters, they're fully committed to their roles here, and manage to make even the film's wonkier moments at least somewhat captivating.

There won't be any awards considerations this time around, but it's remarkable work all the same.
