Sigourney Weaver: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

And 5 That Sucked...

5. Rex Brooks - Vantage Point (2008)

Vantage Point follows a terrorist plot to assassinate the President of the United States in the middle of a summit held in Spain, that's told through the lens of several eye witnesses. The particular gimmick of the movie is the movie spends a dedicated time unfolding the events from one vantage point before the film 'reboots' its own narrative and starts again from a different perspective in an effort to reveal more around the events of the supposed assassination attempt. With an all-star cast and an intriguing premise bolstering the film's narrative, Vantage Point looked to be a unique thriller that could have stolen 2008 from its genre rivals. Sadly, it didn't. Constantly retreading the same events over and over again became tiring by the fifth reset, and while the film does a good job of ratcheting up the tension the first time around, each subsequent reset becomes less and less interesting. Besides that though, Sigourney Weaver's character Rex Brooks, a news channel producer, is so underused that it feels almost criminal to have such a good actor sidelined to a rather dull role. Weaver's character has the honour of being the vessel for the first viewpoint, but rather than give her some interesting scenes, dialogue or character interaction, all audiences get are some static scenes of her shouting down a microphone giving orders to other reporters. She wasn't the only big name actor totally wasted in Vantage Point but that doesn't make the performance's place on this list any less deserving.
