Sin City: A Dame To Kill For - 15 Easter Eggs & References You Must See

14. Woody The Giant Killer There's also a background appearance for 1948 Woody Woodpecker cartoon "Woody The Giant Killer", based on Jack And The Beanstalk, which also shares plot details with the A Dame To Kill For section of the movie. Naturally, the Woody Woodpecker version is considerably different to the original, darker fairy tale. In A Dame To Kill for Dwight plays the part of Jack, "conned" into selling his cow for a handful of beans on the promise of wealth - Eva Green's Ava Lord plays the part of the temptress, who convinced Dwight that he must kill her husband to save her from his (made-up) abusive behaviour. The stories are of course different, but there are grains of similarities, and the Easter Egg reference to the fairytale - though somewhat convoluted - should have offered a hint at Ava's more wealth-based motives. Interestingly, there is a further synchronicity in the progression of the fairy tale itself - because of moral concerns, the Giant was turned from mark (as he is in the Woody Woodpecker cartoon) into villain, and Jack's conquest of him is sold as vengeance for his mistreatment of the little people - just as Ava convinces Dwight is happening to her. Perhaps Rodriguez chose the sanitised, silly version of Jack And The Beanstalk to foreshadow the fact that Damian is no more than a victim himself, rather than the falsely painted image of the villainous tyrant.
