Sin City: A Dame To Kill For - 15 Easter Eggs & References You Must See

15. An Unlikely Simpsons Nod

As Frank Miller's reluctance to discuss the Easter Eggs when questioned before the release of the film suggested, there are lots of little details in the background of the film - though perhaps not to the degree of other comic book films, given the bold but somewhat reductive atmospheric and aesthetic choices. The film looks stunning, yes, but the limited pallet and stylisation meant that hiding details in the background wasn't exactly the easiest prospect, but some little details did make their way in. One of the strangest seeming nods is the inclusion of a clip from The Simpsons on a TV, which seems a major department from the noir soaked universe of Miller's Sin City. The clip shown comes from The Simpsons: Treehouse Of Horror XX, and specifically the black and white segment "Dial M For Murder", a significant choice for anyone paying attention to the plot. That Halloween pastiche was of course a comedic remake of Hitchcock's classic "Strangers On A Train" - despite the misdirection of the name - a tale of murder, betrayal and most importantly, of disgruntled strangers basically hiring somebody else to kill their spouses. The bones of that story undoubtedly influenced the conception of the A Dame To Kill For segment of the film, given the central murderous plot.
