Skyfall: 10 Reasons It's A Best Picture Oscar Contender

5. Pop-Culture Tie-In

A great way to ensure a film's success both critical and commercial is to tie it into something that is equally - if not more - popular already, and so selecting record-breaking musician Adele to perform the signature Skyfall theme was, of course, an absolutely genius move. You don't need to be a particular fan of her albums to appreciate her booming, powerful voice, which she uses to tremendous effect in the insanely catchy title theme which, given its considerable charts rotation - especially more so than the last few Bond themes, which have lacked a certain star power - and critical acclaim, is as close to a lock for a Best Original Song Oscar nomination as we're likely to get this year. Again, it's another feather in the cap for the film, and will certainly have helped raise its awareness as we closed in on the nomination window in recent weeks.
