Skyfall: 10 Reasons It's A Best Picture Oscar Contender

4. Financial Success

Just recently, Skyfall broke the significant barrier of amassing $1 billion worldwide, an achievement garnered by only 13 previous films. Not only did this total give Sony Pictures their highest-grossing worldwide film, but it also cemented Skyfall as one of the year's major successes, surfacing as the 3rd highest-grossing film of 2012, sitting behind similarly acclaimed blockbusters The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises. Though Oscar and financial success don't always go hand in hand, it's a given that the more exposure a film has, the more likely it is to receive attention from Oscar voters, especially when it's as intelligently-conceived as this alongside its money-making prowess. As with the aforementioned films, it has been a scarily good year for potent, high-grossing movies, and so the film should hopefully help to change prejudices that just because a film makes a ton of cash it can't also be one of the best films of the year.
