Solo: A Star Wars Story - 10 Best Callbacks To The Original Saga Explained
1. Han Shoots First
It's one of the most infamous arguments in Star Wars history: who shot first, Han or Greedo?
This argument stemmed from the various reissues of the original 1977 Star Wars film that have been released over the years and how the famous confrontation between the smuggler and the bounty hunter in the Mos Eisley Cantina was altered.
Interestingly enough, in the original theatrical version of the film, Greedo never shot at all. Han shot Greedo dead for threatening him and that was the end of it.
In the 1997 special edition, however, it was edited to that Greedo actually shot first, which prompted Han to open fire in retaliation. Then, in the 2004 DVD release, the scene was altered again so that both fired at the exact same time (this version of events was also reused in the 2011 Blu-ray release).
Seeing as how we're probably not going to get a Blu-ray release of A New Hope's original theatrical cut anytime soon, Solo decided to provide some gratification for the "Han shot first" crowd.
Following the film's climax when Tobias Beckett betrays his allies, he finds himself in a Mexican-style standoff with Han. They are pointing their weapons at one another when Beckett starts a monologue, but before he can even finish his thought, Han shoots him through the heart in a moment that harkens back to the original film's theatrical cut.
Many Star Wars fans will likely be glad that there's now a film where Han shoots first and there's absolutely no bones about it.
