Solo: A Star Wars Story - 10 Best Callbacks To The Original Saga Explained
9. "Let The Wookiee Win"
Solo explained a lot about the friendship between Han and Chewbacca, such as how the two met, how they can understand each other's languages, and why Han decided to come up with the nickname of "Chewie."
However, easily the best callback to Han and Chewie's shenanigans in the Original Trilogy comes as a result of the classic holographic tabletop game of Dejarik.
In A New Hope, Chewbacca is bested at the game by C-3PO, much to the Wookiee's annoyance. Han gives Threepio the advice of "let the Wookiee win," as his species are known to rip people's arms off when they lose.
We now know that Han wasn't just throwing out Wookiee trivia. Rather, it's something he's seen first-hand.
Before the heist on Kessel, Chewbacca is seen playing a game of Dejarik against Beckett. Chewie starts to get angry after losing, with Beckett trying to calm him down.
Later on, Han and Chewie are tasked with taking out two guards in an elevator during their heist. After Han deals with one guard, he turns around to see that Chewie has ripped the other's arms clean off. Therefore, one can only assume that he was taking out his earlier frustration from the game.
In hindsight, Threepio really should have thanked Han for the heads-up.
