Solo: A Star Wars Story - 10 Best Callbacks To The Original Saga Explained
7. Chewbacca: Clone Wars Veteran
Original Trilogy mainstay Chewbacca got a fair amount of development in Solo, with a lot of details about his past being explained explained, such as how he met his co-pilot Han, and the aforementioned origin of his nickname.
However, let's not forget that Chewbacca's very first chronological Star Wars film appearance came in 2005's Revenge of the Sith.
As a veteran of the fabled Clone Wars, Chewbacca is absolutely no stranger to loss. He fought in a losing effort against those who would soon become the Galactic Empire and was forced to watch his homeworld of Kashyyyk be overrun and his fellow Wookiees be sold into slavery.
This is why it's a rather significant moment when Chewie spots a Wookiee slave in the mines during the film's main heist and goes in to make the save. In doing so, he not only gets a certain amount of closure, but also shows the expert combat prowess you'd expect from someone who led an entire army against the Trade Federation's battle droids, as well as helped Yoda escape the clone troopers during Order 66.
