Upon arriving on Kessel in the hope of stealing the coaxium stockpile there, Han and Chewie are received into the planet as slaves, after which they're taken to the spice mines to start hard labour.

Here Ron Howard paints a grimly disturbing picture of both the human and Wookiee turmoil that takes place there, bringing to life an aspect of the Star Wars universe that's only canonically received a passing mention in A New Hope.

It's hugely satisfying to see the movie drawing from the well of Legends stories and in turn delivering one its most evocative and memorably grungy sequences.
