Solo: A Star Wars Story - 52 Easter Eggs & References Explained
8. Darth Maul Lives
By far the most shocking moment in Solo was the surprise cameo from Darth Maul, who speaks to Qi'ra via hologram, revealing himself as the true leader of Crimson Dawn following Dryden Vos' demise.
To those not acquainted with the wider aspects of Star Wars lore, it must be a terribly confusing revelation, given Maul's quite unambiguous demise at the end of The Phantom Menace.
However, The Clone Wars reveals that Maul survived his "death" at the hands of Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor), having lost his mind in the process but also getting kitted out with some nifty robotic legs.
While it does require more casual Star Wars fans to get over their confusion a bit, it's nevertheless awesome to see an under-served character from the prequels brought back to life, while performed by Episode I's Ray Park and voiced by his usual voice actor Sam Witwer.
Presumably he'll have a pivotal role in the planned Solo sequels, and how can you not be excited about that?
