SOMEWHERE in Translation

The more I see of Somewhere, the more I'm certain that Sofia Coppola has taken her script for Lost in Translation - changed a few character traits, a few names and the locales - given it a new title and stamped it as an original, dramatic feature. An old story in new gloss, if you will. My original knee-jerk reaction was that Somewhere was a 'tonal sequel' but now I just see an artist trying to repeat a former glory after a misfire. The latest marketing clip from the movie has our unusual lead Stephen Dorff playing a loser actorwith issues, and his obviously disgruntled former co-star Michelle Monaghan with whom they share a history together, during a photo shoot which eerily echoes a famous scene in the 2003 Best Picture nominee. Just this time without the laughs, the charismatic performances or the witty dialogue. | Somewhere | Movie Trailers I'm not saying I'm not interested in Somewhere, because I am. It's exactly my kind of movie but I'm curious as to how it'll open in Venice over the next fortnight or so because I'm not feeling a spark with it. It's lacking... something.
