2. The Epic Final Battle

There are some relatively decent action sequences leading up to the big finale, but that climactic battle against Robotnik and his gigantic, Death Egg-style mech is the movie's easy highlight set-piece.

It's clear that a sizable chunk of the film's budget was saved for this gonzo, high-wire showdown, which basically feels like one of the series' epic video game boss battles brought to cinematic life.

It's certainly a fitting scale-up from the more modest final battle between Sonic and Robotnik at the end of the first film, making the most of the extra $20 million-or-so that Paramount gave Fowler for the sequel, while also invoking some crowd-pleasing elements from the games.
