Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

3. Jim Carrey's Loony Performance (Again)

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Robotnik Jim Carrey

Jim Carrey's wacky, off-the-wall performance as Dr. Robotnik was one of the first film's easy highlights - with his rubber-faced mugging and unrestrained physical comedy, it felt like a throwback to the '90s Carrey we all know and love.

And while Sonic 2 sadly doesn't afford him material of quite the same caliber, Carey is still an absolutely electrifying presence any time he appears on screen.

With his comically OTT mustache and shaved head, Carrey naturally looks considerably more like the Robotnik of the video games than in the previous movie, and he clearly relishes the opportunity to disappear completely into the character.

Again, the script could be better, but nobody's going to accuse Carrey of just phoning it in.
