Sonic The Hedgehog 2 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
4. There's TONS Of Fan Service
While the first film was a little restrained on the fan service front, perhaps for fear of alienating general audiences, it feels like the success of the original emboldened director Fowler to basically double down on the Easter eggs and wink-wink references this time.
Sonic 2 is absolutely jam-packed with nods to the video game series and beyond, such that the hardcore crowd are sure to have a blast pointing them all out.
Some Easter eggs are totally obvious, like Agent Stone (Elfina Luk) now working at a coffee shop called the Mean Bean, while others are a tad more subtle, like Sonic mentioning how much he hates water (as will surely be triggering for anyone who's played the games).
This is certainly one of those films that begs to be freeze-framed once it hits streaming, because it feels like just about every scene has some sort of a nod to aspects of the existing Sonic franchise.
