Everyone's favourite hedgehog is thankfully the star of his own movie, in spite of minimal assistance from his human co stars and some woeful scripting. The CGI adjustment was a godsend, while the voice work from Ben Schwartz is first rate, bringing humour and heart to the titular character.

The action scenes with Sonic in full gear generally look extremely impressive, unfortunately there is just not enough of it. There is a ridiculous visit to a bar that adds precisely nothing to the film or Sonic's character, but there is always a real sense throughout the film that there is a walking, talking hedgehog before you.

The biggest issue is that there isn't enough Sonic in the film, with too much concentration on the generally disinteresting human characters. There are also a number of scenes that seem to have been cut from the movie, either due to cutting the run time or an attempt to cut back on costs.
