The trailers were not promising when it came to Jim Carrey's appearance as 'the Eggman', and in terms of lame humour and poor physical comedy, well it's as bad as expected.

Random dance scenes and improvised scenes that are clearly meant to be funny fall flat for adults and children alike. The screening this writer attended was deafly silent in these attempted comic moments, with the kids in the audience unaware it was even meant to be funny.

On the upside for Carrey, his over the top energy works for the villain role in a Kids film, although he didn't really seem to be that great a threat.

In the final sequences where Sonic takes on his nemesis through various locations around the world, his character is less grating, while providing a decent spark that at least matches the energy of Sonic.
