1. The Overqualified Supporting Cast

The one silver lining of the trailer is that it does show off the incredibly game supporting cast of the film. With genuinely talented actors such as James Marsden and Jim Carrey at least appearing to be giving their all to these performances.

Mind you, that’s not to say that these performances are good per say, but in moments like when James Marsden’s character discovers Sonic for the first time, he is at least doing everything he can to try and sell this moment. Similarly, Carrey’s comedic beats may be depressingly below passable but they do feature Carrey swinging for the fences in a way he really hasn’t in quite some time.

All of this to say, these respected and likable actors are the film’s strongest asset and the marketing team at Paramount at least figured out how to make their presence feel prominent.
