Spectre: 23 Easter Eggs & References You Need To See

8. SPECTRE Everywhere

The SPECTRE symbolism is impossible to escape. The opening credits roll after Bond retrieves an octopus stamped ring from SPECTRE's chief assassin Sciarro, with heavy (and extremely weird) octopus imagery. And the bullet-hole used for the title logo is obviously an octopus shape. The ring itself is of course a direct call-back; earlier Bond film shave SPECTRE agents handed a gold "Ring of Evil" to help easily distinguish them for Bond, somewhat idiotically. In Spectre, Bond uses the same method of identification to break through SPECTRE's security in Rome. And the octopus - which was used by SPECTRE to suggest far reaching (near omnipotent) influence - appears elsewhere. The 9 Eyes global security system suggested by Max Denbigh is another octopus reference, as an octopus has nine brains, much like the set-up of Denbigh's surveillance set-up.
